Westfield UTC Transit Center in University City opened for business on Friday. Located off of Genesee Avenue, the 80,000 square-foot center will operate the North County Transit District as well as 11 bus lines. Routes will include the VA Medical Center, Miramar College, Downtown San Diego, UC San Diego, Fashion Valley, Kearny Mesa, Old Town, Executive and Judicial Drive, Euclid Avenue Trolley Station, and more.

Direct pedestrian access to the mall, ticket vending machines, sign boards for wait times, passenger waiting areas, and bike lockers will be among the amenities.

According to the Times Of San Diego, this transit center was built with private and public funds, taking $13.7 million to construct. The center will also serve as the future end of the line for the trolley’s Blue Line. The extension, which would run from the Morena District to University City, is expected to be complete in about four years.
