The whole country is waiting to see which city will land the highly coveted second headquarters for Amazon. Whichever city wins will reap the rewards of all the jobs and income the tech giant will bring.

A lot of speculation is still ongoing, most of which isn’t credible, but the Wall Street Journal is a different story. Their recent report gave Dallas-Fort Worth the best chance of landing Amazon.

The Wall Street Journal ranked cities on six criteria: fiscal health, tech labor force, cost of living, college population, state tax rate, and cultural fit. Based on these criteria, DFW came in first place.

Previous analyses pegged Dallas’ odds as poor in large part due to transportation factors, which the WSJ analysis did not take into account.

Dallas-Fort Worth does have the T, Fort Worth Transportation Authority’s system, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) bus and light rail system. However, because the Metroplex is so large and sprawling, the amount of available public transit is generally seen as lacking.

The Wall Street Journal rated Boston second, with Atlanta and Washington, D.C. tied for third place.

It is not yet known where an Amazon facility would be located if Dallas wins the bid. Cities all across North Texas submitted proposals and the area has many viable sites. However, the DFW region as a whole submitted one unified proposal to Amazon as requested.

Although the WSJ rated Dallas first on the list, it acknowledged that the area is lacking in terms of fiscal health and being a fit with Amazon’s culture

Many believe Amazon will likely narrow down the search to a handful of cities and then have a second round of evaluation.
