Around Carter Riverside

Carter Riverside has begun revitalization and is a popular residential area within Fort Worth for buyers hoping to stay close to downtown while paying suburb prices. This neighborhood is comprised mainly of single-family homes, although a small number of apartments can be found, typically above garages or to the rear of other homes. For a more urban feel, check out housing closer to the highway and main artery, Belknap Street. Farther out, north of Yucca, you’ll more feel the coziness and neighborliness of the suburbs, particularly in the streets surrounding Carter Riverside High School.

Prices remain very affordable in Carter Riverside, particularly when you consider all of the amenities being a resident of Fort Worth has to offer, such as sports and recreation centers and a state-of-the-art library system. First-time homeowners, in particular, may find this neighborhood welcoming as smaller and older single-family homes offer great entry-level prices. The area does have some larger, newer homes which are pricier, and properties values are poised to increase all around as continued revitalization occurs.

Carter Riverside boasts a blend of national chains like McDonald’s and Dominoes, local small chains like Dixie House Cafe and Pollo Regio, and independent favorites like El Mariachi and Mamma Mia’s. Anyone craving comfort food must head to Dixie House Café on Belknap for down-home cooking.

When you’re in Carter Riverside, you’ll quickly transition from a few blocks of residential streets to an area filled with restaurants and then quickly back to more homes. Fort Worth is a Blue Zones city, so in addition to all the cars that cut through on Belknap and Yucca or zip up Riverside or Beach, you’ll see numerous bikers and, on roads with sidewalks, the occasionally walker or runner when it’s not 110 degrees outside. Carter Riverside only has one park, Sylvania Park, but it offers a great respite stop for residents and visitors alike to grab a moment of peace during a busy day.

Carter Riverside is a very family-oriented area, so on Friday nights, you’ll find large groups at all the local restaurants and chain places alike. High school sports and events are also a big deal.

Begin the day with a walk around Sylvania Park, then mosey over to Dixie House Cafe for a breakfast that will leave you full for what seems like weeks. Later on, your neighbors will be having a backyard BBQ you can join or there’ll be a pickup softball game at the diamond at Sylvania Park.

Carter Riverside is accessible from both downtown as well as the eastern suburbs via highway 121. It is bounded by major roads Riverside Drive and Beach Street, which are also entry points from other Fort Worth neighborhoods. Yucca Avenue comes in from the west where it is also named Northside Drive and is a gateway from the Northside neighborhood and the Stockyards area. You can also use Trinity Metro mass transit buses to reach Carter Riverside and can also access the Trinity Railway Express just south of 121 in nearby Richland Hills or from one of the downtown terminals.
