We recently moved to Houston from Dallas. This was my daughters first year here and she attended first grade at Elrod Elementary. There were some pros and cons. As far as the new principal, family events, and letting the parents get very involved was great! On the other hand my daughters teacher was friendly and did teach her new things, (as I expect she would) but most of the school year they didn't have homework or any papers coming home. To let me know anything. Overall she had a great year but we will be going to a new school this year.

I began working here for the 2012-13 school year and I will have to say that this was the worst teaching experience I've ever had in my professional career. There are some good kids, but they are a small minority, the MAJORITY are kids who have HUGE discipline problems. There was a high turn over rate with staff and teachers last year . The principal, Mrs. Bellard , as well as the magnet coordinator, Mrs. Vanegas, show little support towards the teachers. If a teacher has a discipline issue with a student, they often call in the teacher placing blame on the teacher for the students' discipline issue. The school is plagued with major discipline issues. I would HIGHLY recommend entering this school as an HOURLY teacher before signing a contract. I am very relieved to be leaving this school at the end of the school year, as are many other teacher that I have spoken to. Good luck to the few teachers who will remain. With any luck Mrs. Bellard will retire!

Elrod Elementary School I have had a very troubled few years. My life and finances as well as family has been torn apart a shaken to the core. Starting From hurricane Ike damaged my apartment sent my family of 3 running for shelter. It has been myself and my 2 sons my oldest is now 20 and my youngest will turn 12 this August 15th. Time flies fast and with it the changes in life. I have had to uproot my family for the sake of job and finances more than I care to say but from districts of Alief and then to Cy-fair one district by far is HISD because of Elrod. Never had I seen such a caring group of individuals so intouch and concerned with my child ever before. I never experienced anything like it. My son has gone through separation of our family, his brother left for school, the passing of my mother, my grandmother, and my aunt who helped raised me and was like a grandmother to my son and his grandfather. Dealing with me losing my job as a lay-off and trying to struggle to get back into a place of unemployment. This school and their associates reached out in no way I have ever seen before. They were able to diagnose and act on my son's learning disabilities. I am forever thankful.

Although some may argue that Elrod's location is not the most desirable, its stellar Educator Performance outshines its surrounding community demographics. 1st Grade Teacher Mrs. Zenovia Crier is a primary example of excellence in our school system. It is very apparent that Mrs. Crier has a love for the profession and a sincere interest and concern for her students. Her eagerness to provide a learning environment that draws out the strengths in all her pupils is evidence of this. Under Mrs. Crier s tutelage my son completed his Kindergarten year reading at a 2nd Grade level and finished his 1st grade year reading at a 5th grade level. Like many students he had some issues with bullying and Mrs. Crier was very helpful with instigating the Zero Tolerance for Bullying initiative that I have recently noticed the school being more active in. She has been a phenomenal Teacher and an excellent mentor in the development of his educational journey. It is the Teachers at Elrod Elementary such as Mrs. Crier, which make this school an asset to parents and the community.
