Sammons Elementary School

Both of my kids went to sammons. My son is constantly getting bullied. The teachers and principal HUGELY fail to take any effective actions against bullying going on. Reprimanding is to a minumum. It is my understanding that they children are not educated nor constantly reminded of the no-tolerance for bullying. Teachers are left to handle each situation in however they feel is best. The school should implement a school-wide procedure for dealing with these issues. That way it's effective, instead of each teach just fending for themselves. Kids that are bullies, realize how they can get away with certain teachers because of this lack of school-wide expectation. Also, there is a huge lack of funds for extra-curricular activities. Kids barely take field trips, do things outside of their sub-par academics. This school is wack. Can't wait to afford to be able to move out of this area.

The Headmaster, Mr. José Almendarez and the teachers (especially Mrs. Hiller, Ms. Neppl, and Ms. Mitchell ) are truly amazing. They have so much patience and they know how to communicate with children at many different levels. Love the support staff as well. From the nurse right up to the security personnel are very warm yet very professional at the same time.

If I could put no stars I would. They don't allow you to celebrate your child's birthday. They do not have any holiday parties kids can partake in.dont celebrate the 100th day. the communication within the school is terrible! I've written countless notes to have his teacher contact me in regards to bullying and behavior, never returned any notes resulting in me having to call the front office. You can only have lunch with your child when they allow it.my child was sick all day throwing up and had a fever and nobody contacted myself or his father to let us know so he went the whole day being miserable. This will be the third time he gets sick this year and he hardly ever got sick attending a different school last year. His teacher does not check is homework and does not let me know his day to day behavior in his folder. Worst school ever. Stay away! Parents nightmare. I cannot stress this enough. They try to take advantage of it being a low income level. No field trips for kids. Counted my son absent when he was at school and try to give me a letter saying if he was absent another day id have legal actions brought against me. When he has only missed two days!

My child is a third grader at Sammons Elementary. I am disappointed with the front office staff! They are rude! After coming from an elementary school in Oak Ridge that was always welcoming to parents, this was the biggest letdown ever! Every time you are in the school, the teachers are yelling or have a mean scowl on their face!! They should really choose occupations that better suit them like "THEY MUST LIKE KIDS". Luckily my child is smart and only has one more year there!! The first day of school she was criticized for not knowing Spanish when she is a Latina!! Hey here's a bright idea!!! Learn English so our tax dollars can be put to better use like special education and gifted programs instead of bilingual classes for these poor children who are trying to learn English but their lazy parents won't learn it or speak it at home so these children can become fluent in English!! Her teacher is great but the staff and aides are a disgrace!!
