Five Bay Area cities are joining forces to submit a proposal for Amazon’s second headquarters. Members cities include San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, Fremont, and Concord.

According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, the cities are proposing an idea that would have multiple sites and offices across the Bay Area, spanning the BART line for added convenience. The proposal seems to be right in line with Amazon’s requirements for the project, which will employ 50,000 workers:

  • Property must have at least 1 million square feet that could increase to 8 million by 2027
  • Site cannot be more than 45 minutes from an airport
  • Site must have two major highways nearby, access to mass transportation, and be no more than 30 miles from a population center

According to proposal leaders, Concord’s 5,000-acre shuttered naval station could be an ideal spot all on its own. But Amazon has requested that only one bid be submitted from each metropolitan area, thus pushing the five cities to work together on one proposal for the retail giant. The hope is that Amazon will be interested in the idea of spreading itself out along the BART line and putting employees in different locations throughout the Bay Area.

Amazon is requesting a tight turnaround on these proposals as they are due on Oct. 19.
