Walsh is poised to become a city-within-a-city in the next two decades as Fort Worth’s population surges from 850,000 to 1.5 million residents in 2040, according to the Dallas Morning News

Located on the western edge of Fort Worth near the Aledo border and Interstates 20 and 30 merge, the 7,000-acre master planned development opened to residents in May.

The first phase of the development including 587 single-family lots is underway with nine builders. Eight families have moved in and 60 other homes are under contract, according to the Dallas Morning News report.

Homes range in price from the upper $200,000s to almost $800,000. In a subsequent construction phase, custom homes in the $1 million-and-up range will be built on a nearby hillside. Since a significant portion of land is reserved for greenspace, every home is within a five-minute walk of a park that contains restrooms. Other amenities — including a pool, fitness center, and lagoon for paddle boating and fishing — are slated to open in 2018.

Served by the Aledo Independent School District, the community will ultimately have its own middle and high schools, and Walsh Elementary is already open.

Though commercial space is on the drawing board for future development, Walsh Village Market, which sells gas, take-out meals, organic groceries, and snacks in the neighborhood, opened this summer. The community also recently started offering telehealth services to residents.
