The Dallas metropolitan area seems to be undergoing constant progress. Between an enviable boom of corporate relocations, being one of the nation’s top housing markets, and adding 100,000 new jobs this past year, Dallas is shifting from being a sprawling series of developments to an urban metropolitan area. In addition to thriving live, work, and play neighborhoods in Uptown Dallas, the Bishop Arts District, and the Cedars, residential towers are outpacing high-rise office buildings and hotels in the Downtown neighborhood. And a surge of mixed-use developments is creating urban pockets throughout the area. There are dozens of projects underway or in the pipeline, but here are 10 major developments that are redefining the Dallas area.

Dallas Midtown - Far North Dallas

Located on a demolished mall site, Dallas Midtown will exemplify the area’s urban evolution. Anchored by Cinépolis cinema and Life Time Fitness, the 430-acre, mixed-use development will contain chic condo towers, upscale apartment high-rises, luxury hotels, boutiques, and trendy restaurants and bars. Hiking and biking trails in a 20-acre park will connect to White Rock Lake and a trolley system will provide transportation to the Galleria. The “city within a city” is projected to open in late 2019.

Legacy West – Plano

Built on 250 acres surrounding J.C. Penney’s Plano headquarters, Legacy West is a magnet for corporate relocations. This dynamic mixed-use development contains more than 300,000 square feet of office space and currently hosts Toyota’s North American headquarters, FedEx Office’s headquarters, Liberty Mutual Insurance, and JPMorgan Chase. While the workforce will soon exceed 20,000 employees, the development offers a walkable lifestyle with luxury condo and apartment towers, an upscale high-rise hotel, 300,000 square feet of trendy retail and restaurant establishments, and a city park in the works. Though development was projected on a 10-year plan, the popular community is nearing land capacity.
